Reflexology is an
ancient therapy which initiates the body’s
own healing response through a specific massage
technique on the feet. It works on the principal
that the feet ‘mirror’ the body and
have reflex points all over them that correspond
to every organ and bone of the body. By applying
pressure to the reflex points on the feet, the
corresponding parts of the body are stimulated
through improved blood and nerve supply.
The Treatment
The client removes shoes and socks. The therapist
makes themselves aware of any health concerns
that the client may have. The therapist then works
on each foot, applying a firm but gentle pressure
to all the reflex points paying particular attention
to any areas that are sensitive as this gives
the therapist important information about the
balance of energy in the body.
How many Treatments are required?
There is no specific formula for this but a course
of 6-8 treatments once a week, is usually advised
to start with. At the end of this period, the
therapist will review the client’s progress
and decide with them whether additional treatment,
if any, is required. Frequently people will continue
to have treatments, not only because they enjoy
it so much, but also because Reflexology helps
then to maintain good health.
